The Saanich school district continues to win support for its made-in-B.C. computer system that tracks student registrations, attendance, grades and other records.

The district signed up two more districts this week — Powell River and Cowichan Valley — bringing to five the number that have agreed to invest in the openStudent project. The North Island and Comox Valley districts joined last month.

 

School District No. 47 (Powell River) Joins openStudent Development

The openStudent development team and School District No. 63 (Saanich) welcome School District No. 47 (Powell River) to participate in joint development of the openStudent Student Information System. The addition of School District 47 (Power River) marks a major milestone with the openStudent project. It is now possible to formalize the not-for-profit society as there are now five districts involved in the openStudent development.

School District No. 79 (Cowichan Valley) Joins openStudent Development

The openStudent development team and School District No. 63 (Saanich) welcome School District No. 79 (Cowichan Valley) to participate in joint development of the openStudent Student Information System. We anticipate announcing the formalizing of the non-profit society, open Education Services BC, in the near future. open Education Services BC will be the not-for-profit company which will provide governance and direction for openStudent development.

April Workshops

The openStudent team would like to express our thanks and gratitude for the tremendous participation at the workshops last week on April 17th and 18th. Over 40 people representing 10 districts participated in the 2 day sessions. We had representation from all aspects of the education system including teachers, administrators, clerical, senior executive, information technology and other support staff. The discussion was lively, stimulating and provided additional insight into the breadth of business requirements for openStudent. The eight streams included:

openStudent Workshop

On April 17 and 18, there will be an openStudent workshop held in Sidney, BC.  Numerous users from around the province will be gathering together to discuss the business requirements for topics such as: Master Timetable Builder, Reports, Gradebook, IEP tracking (aka SPED Full), Support website (aka ISW), Interoperability/Mobility, Training/Implementing, and CE/DL/DE.  Everyone is welcome.  For more information please contact Debby Davis at ddavis@openstudent.ca.

Sprint 31 complete. Work commences on Sprint 32

Sprint 31 completed several bug fixes. As well the contract screen has been redisigned after user feedback. Extensive work with user preferences, security and attendance screens were also facilitated.

Sprint 32 focuses on additional bug fixes with enhancements to screen design in several areas. As well work continues on increasing stability and improving the security model.
